Sources & editorial standards

The STS Knowledge Guide introduces research traditions, concepts, thinkers, and works, representing distinct perspectives and disagreements fairly. Entries and connection notes are works in progress, not a peer-reviewed publication.

Explore and look up

Explore shows selected connections between entries. Look up offers an alphabetical index and quick definitions. Both lead to entry pages and their sources.

Claims and sources

Concept definitions and substantive explanations carry citations to original scholarship, scholarly reference works, or explicitly identified author and publisher accounts. Expand a source note to see the supporting passage summarized and its page or section. Concept source notes summarize supporting passages. In the preserved chapter reader, English passages are quotations, […] marks an omission, and Chinese and Korean are unofficial AI-assisted translations. The selected quotations come from distinct source contexts; their sequence is editorial. A reading recommendation does not imply that its full text was consulted.

Editorial guidance and invented illustrations are labeled separately. Literature examples require a source and locator. Links in the map indicate selected relationships, not automatically influence or agreement.

Draft and review status

  • Source-checked draft: the cited passages were consulted for the stated claims during preparation. This does not constitute independent scholarly review.
  • Scholarly reviewed: reserved for a documented review by a named qualified reviewer. No entries currently have this status.

The current drafts were prepared with AI assistance. A scholarly editor and independent reviewers have not yet been assigned. Hosting by the center does not imply its scholarly endorsement of each draft.

Revisions and citation

Each revised concept records its version and date. Cite the entry title, guide title, draft status, version, date, and entry URL. Archived editions preserve their original titles, text, and source notes. Edition 0.9 includes the earlier textbook material and Chapter 1 study passages; it does not describe the current navigation. The chapter reader remains available by direct link, but Read is no longer a guide mode. Published snapshots are never overwritten.
