Scientometrics & Science of Science

Overview

Scientometrics studies the measurement of science and scientific activity. Bibliometrics, which examines publications and their relationships, is an important contributing tradition and also applies to literature outside science. LIS, citation indexing, and quantitative sociology provide additional roots. Contemporary Science of Science combines these with networks, text analysis, and other empirical methods to study teams, careers, ideas, and inequality. It also has an intellectual and institutional life outside STS.
